Racing, Relaxing & Reeling ‘Em In: Tikford Racing Visits Huka Prawn Park

Back in April we had the pleasure of welcoming two of Supercars’ finest, Cam Waters and Thomas Randle from Tikford Racing, to Huka Prawn Park right here in beautiful Taupo. The pair were in town gearing up for the 2025 ITM Taupo Super 440, held at Taupo International Motorsport Park, and decided to squeeze in some friendly competition before hitting the track.

When they’re not clocking up laps in the Supercars Championship, it turns out they’re not too bad with a fishing rod either… especially when it comes to catching prawns!

Randle, who was behind the wheel of the No. 55 Castrol Racing Mustang, showed his competitive streak early by landing the first catch of the day out in our outdoor ponds. But Waters, driver of the No.6 Ford Mustang, wasn’t far behind – though we have to admit, he did strategically choose to make his move in the indoor pools… which might just be a tad easier (hey, we’re not judging, strategy is everything in racing AND prawn fishing!).

Both drivers enjoyed exploring everything the park has to offer. And what’s a visit to Huka Prawn Park without tasting the results? After their successful catch, the boys headed to our Riverside Restaurant, where their freshly caught prawns were cooked to perfection. Safe to say, the only thing more impressive than their skills on the track is their taste in food.

As their action-packed weekend came to a close, the Tikford Racing team left Taupo with plenty of smiles (and that’s not just from their time with us!). Cam Waters continues to be a strong title contender, currently sitting second in the championship standings, just 34 points shy of the lead. Meanwhile Thomas Randle holds a solid ninth place overall.

We loved having Cam and Thomas stop by, and wish them and the whole Tikford Racing team the best of luck on their next adventure.

Did you spot them racing at the Taupō Super 440?
