The festive season has arrived, bringing with it the perfect opportunity for an unforgettable family outing! From 21st December 2024 to 20th January 2025, Huka Prawn Park is thrilled to welcome you for an exciting prawn fishing adventure. Whether you’re an experienced angler or casting a line for the first time, this is your chance to create fun-filled memories in the heart of Taupō.

Perched alongside the breathtaking Waikato River, Huka Prawn Park offers more than just fishing – it’s a hub of laughter, bonding, and enjoyment. Feel the excitement as you throw out your line, wait eagerly, and land your very own prawn. This unique activity is both engaging and entertaining, making it ideal for all ages, from curious kids to adventurous adults.

Prawn Themed Activities Park

From the minute you arrive at our entrance you will be amazed at such a place existing in the world. Imagine 6 hectares of riverside park grounds to explore, ponds to paddle on, interactive installations, adventure and fun around every corner and geothermal heated gems to warm you up and spots to relax .

You will hear the fun and laughter coming from our dedicated boat pond as families and friends race up and down the pond on stand-up paddleboards, water trikes, pedal boats and not to forget Swanderella and Duck Norris! The kids will want to go on them ALL, so be prepared for some pedalling power and wet feet!

The fun doesn’t stop at the boat pond. From here you can venture off on Shawn’s adventure walk where there are endless interactive experiences for the whole family to engage in. Throughout the park you will see true kiwi ingenuity with the perfect mix of sciences and fun set around our ponds and among native trees alongside the Waikato River! There are hidden gems, challenges, water activities and adventure around every corner so take your time to explore and make memories that will last forever! You’ll even find geothermally heated seats and footbaths along the way so take 5 to relax in nature.

Throughout the park you can find plenty of spots to sit back and enjoy a picnic or head along to our Riverside restaurant and enjoy a menu and location that is uniquely us!

Behind the Scenes Tour

Start by joining our behind the scenes guided tour, hear about our 30-year history and connection to our neighbouring geothermal power station, be shown through our unique nursery and hatchery where thousand of pawns are breed annually, see our big breeding prawns up close and personal and while you’re there hand feed the baby prawns, an experience like no other. Don’t worry they don’t bite, just tickle.

This fun and interactive tour is great for all ages and included in your day pass or tour only passes are available. Tours leave from the foyer on the hour from 11am-2pm, allow 30 minutes.

Adults: $27.50 | Child: $15.00 (5 -15 years old)

Under 5’s free with a paying adult

Student: $20.00

Family: $75.00
(includes 2 adults & up to 5 children 5-15yrs and under 5’s free with paying adult) $65 family pass available with no Behind the Scenes tour

Guided Tour Only $15.00

Prawn Fishing $5.00 per person (in addition to park entry fee)

1.5-2 hours recommended to enjoy all the activities throughout the park and the tour.

The Return of a Classic: Prawn Fishing Relaunches at Huka Prawn Park for a Limited Time

Our team has been consistently working hard behind the scenes, and we are thrilled to announce the next step in the process of bringing prawn fishing back. We have a pond teeming with prawns which in the coming weeks will be opening up to allow you the chance to trial this much-loved activity for a limited time.
